About Dillan Vanner

I was born at Moses Lake, Washington in 2004. Since then, I've spent the majority of my life in Texas, and I currently live in Lubbock studying at Texas Tech University.

My spark for travel and experience began with my grandparents taking me to the East Coast for winning my school's spelling bee. Since then, I've been to multiple countries, unconventional attractions, and having places published on the travel sites Atlas Obscura and Roadside America.

I've done editing with digital software since I was a child. I proficiently know Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and After Effects, and have experience with DaVinci Resolve.

The Last Picture of a Year

The Last Picture of a Year

This was the last picture I took of 2024. Shortly after taking this picture, the ground came out from under me. I fell 85 feet, breaking my spine in six different places and being admitted to the hospital for a month.

Despite this setback and the many challenges it gave me, I have not given up on my dream.

Frequently Asked Questions

What software and hardware do you use?

I have extensive experience with many Adobe products like Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and After Effects. I have experience with Canva and DaVinci products such as Resolve and Fusion.

I mainly use Canon cameras as they are my personal favorite, but I have also used Sony and Nikon cameras before.

How would you describe your photography style?

Originally, I experimented with primarily nature, as it was what originally appealed to me. Recently, I've broadened my horizons, focusing on more advanced technical work for interviews and incorporating subjects to tell their stories.

What's your favorite place you've been to?

I always come back to Portugal in my head. The country was one of my first true experiences seeing Europe, with sights like the Chapel of Bones at Evora and the National Palace of Pena at Sintra being some of my favorites in the continent.

Stateside, Santa Fe in New Mexico is my favorite city with its rich culture and history over centuries, and Grand Teton is my favorite national park.

What do you do outside of school?

I'm a part of the international service organization Alpha Phi Omega and have over 300 hours of service with the organization, and representing my chapter to national conventions in Indianapolis and Philadelphia.

Outside of school and organizations, history remains a highly valued subject of mine, and I enjoy researching and studying it in my free time.
